1. 1. How did you get your inspiration for your main character?
I had a writing professor tell me I should write the book I would have wanted to read at that age and I created Landry Albright and the Landry’s True Colors Series because I wanted a character that people could relate to in that she’s flawed and shares her insecurities. I grew up reading about characters who seemed like they had it all together and then there were the Gossip Girl types, too. I just wanted someone who dealt with real every day issues—like anxiety, friend issues, and dealing with her parents and the idea of a modeling career. Landry is funny, loyal, and wants to stand out, but yet isn’t completely comfortable in the spotlight.
2. 2. Describe a dream that your main character had last night.
Landry would dream about being late to school on a day when she had a major speech to give as well as an exam. Her dream would start out with the alarm not going off and her not having time to wash her hair or put on makeup when she supposed to get in front of the class and speak. I mean, there’s nothing like not looking or feeling your best on a day you’ll be scrutinized as you do the scariest thing ever—public speaking. Ugh! She rushes to school only to find the door locked and she has to sheepishly knock on the door only to have her teacher glare at her and lecture her on being late. Can you tell this is a reoccurring dream of mine??
3. 3. What is your main character's favorite fast food restaurant?
The Landry’s True Colors Series is a clean reads young adult humor series about friendship, self-esteem, fitting in, middle school and high school, frenemies, crushes, and self-image. It’s a clean reads book so it’s suitable for ages 11 and up.
