Winter Challenge Week 1:
A few years ago a blogger that I read daily led her readers on a series of winter challenges to help stave off the winter doldrums. I really like that idea, and so I’m going to resurrect the idea here. Starting today, and continuing every Tuesday until the end of February, I’m going to put up a different challenge. I’ll also report back how I do on each challenge week by week.
Let’s try to spend our hibernating months trying new things and connecting with people. This week in Illinois it’s going to be a little warmer than it has been (30s and 40s! It’s like a tropical heatwave!), and I feel like we always need those days to make it through the winter. Obviously that’s not true for everyone. Some places never get that cold, some places aren’t getting any warmer, and some places aren’t even in winter right now.
Now I’ve got the “Heatwave” song in my head. “We’re having a heat wave. A tropical heat wave. It isn’t surprising, the temperature’s rising. She certainly can, can-can.”
Side note: Here’s Marilyn Monroe singing the song in “There’s No Business Like Show Business.”
So Challenge #1:
This week let’s get moving. Have a dance party in your kitchen with your kids, take a Zumba class, go out dancing, challenge yourself by signing up for dance lessons, try a Barre workout. Or if none of that is your style go to the ballet or to see a local dance troupe perform. Pull up Youtube and watch Misty Copeland dance. If you have Netflix, watch the documentary, First Position. If you’re having a snow day, snuggle up, and watch some classic dance movies like Save the Last Dance or Center Stage or Honey or Footloose or Flash Dance.
Now…ready, set, GO!
*Report back on your progress.*
